Dear Moon Babies...

Today is the new moon in Pisces. The themes surrounding this new moon suggest that peace does not come from living in a perfect world, but rather from being able to experience hope in any number of circumstances. Underlying this is the notion of acceptance – there are some areas of life where we hold a lot of power and agency, and there are many areas that are beyond our control. Even when we need to take action, we can still accept the reality in front of us.

Acceptance means that we can witness difficulty in our own lives and in the world around us, take action where possible, and accept the rest. Pisces is a sign that understands the strange mystery of everything we don’t control. What allows us to have hope is not about a perfect reality – true hope comes from getting on board with the circumstance and continuing to seek out the ways in which we have agency, and the opportunities for us to keep growing.

Hope comes from knowing that there’s a lot we can do, even if we can’t do everything. But it also comes from knowing that we often have no choice but to accept reality (or try to struggle against it internally, which inevitably causes us distress). So if we are to find any kind of peace, it is through constantly exercising our will where we can enact change, and then accepting what is beyond our will. We are able to find moments of peace, even in the midst of chaos – otherwise, we may never find it at all.

Even while the themes of this new moon speak about hope and acceptance, there are other astrological themes occurring this week that speak about the misuse of power, the underbelly of our nature, and the drive to consume even at the expense of our humanity. So I do not consider the presence of hope something that excludes these realities, but rather, something that by necessity must include them. We also must accept that these are indeed realities of this world, otherwise our choices are based only in a fantasy of what we wish for, rather than what is. And Pisces is also a sign that understands a great amount about fantasy. 

Let us see clearly today and continue to choose hope anyways. Let us find empowerment even in the midst of power struggles and greed. Let us get on board with the circumstances so we can find our way through.
