I believe that life can present obstacles, small or large, that leave one feeling “stuck” and unsure about how to move forward in a way that fits for that person. These obstacles could be relationship struggles, school and work stress, identity confusion and exploration, significant life changes such as transitioning to college or university, previous trauma, experiencing difficult emotions, and more significant mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder. I also believe that every individual has unique personal strengths and skills. The objective of my practice is to help shine the light of awareness on these competencies and to leverage them to move forward in a way that fits for each client.
I have over seven years experience working in community children’s mental health. In this work, I have supported young people facing a diversity of emotional, social, relationship, and family difficulties. I am experienced at short-term, solution-focused counselling as well as long-term therapy that supports clients to address underlying social, emotional, or psychological difficulties they face. My practice model is diverse, integrating solution-focused approaches, cognitive-behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness techniques and it is trauma-informed.
I have facilitated numerous support and educational groups for teens that promote emotion-regulation, coping skills and social connection. I am also experienced at facilitating parenting groups that promote increased knowledge of parenting strategies, child development, positive communication, and social connection with other parents.
In my private practice, I specialize in psychotherapy with young people, ages 17-29. I offer individual therapy as well as family therapy, depending on the needs and preferences of my clients. I aim to create a safe, non-judgmental, and empathetic space where I can collaborate with clients to identify and achieve their specific goals in therapy. Often these goals lead to larger positive outcomes in their lives, such as feeling more in control of navigating life’s ups and downs, awareness and confidence in the self and one’s abilities, and enjoying more meaningful, rewarding relationships.
