Professional Development for
Kinesthetic Healing Through Art
with Nomi Drory
Sunday May 6th | 1-4pm | $35
a free Creative Workshop for IAC Members
There is a healing power in the simple act of drawing.
When our whole self participates in the process of mark-making, we are able to genuinely sense our body as grounded, and then our awareness is open to our felt sense.
In this workshop we will:
I will use my experience as a visual artist, visual art teacher and Alexander Technique trainee to guide you through this exciting adventure.
Nomi Drory, BArch BEd, is a visual artist and visual art teacher, with a background in architecture and experience in various forms of movements; ballet, mime, athletics. Over the course of her artistic career, she has explored a variety of media, including sculpting, drawing, painting, cutouts, video, and multi-media installations. She has participated in dozens of group shows in commercial and public galleries and art fairs in Toronto and New York. Her work is part of the University of Toronto’s art collection, as well as many private collections. Her work was in the official exhibit at the Nuit Blanche 2014.
Nomi’s recent art practice is based on her belief in the power of art to promote state of well being and personal growth. She strongly believes in the Body- Mind unity as an integral part of the artistic process. In the face of her daily chronic pain she experiences from thoracic and lumbar scoliosis she discovered the Alexander Technique, which led her to regain a sense of freedom in coordination and pain-free movement, through the development of psychophysical unity. Currently she is an Alexander Technique trainee. Nomi was then introduced to the therapeutic process of Focusing, which identifies and changes the way that emotions are held in the body, and taps into self-awareness and inner wisdom.
Combining these techniques with her artistic process, Nomi developed a process of drawing that invites the participants to create artwork that comes from a non- judgmental place, that is based on a kinesthetic and felt sense experience, and that communicates our internal state that is linked to our emotions, memories, and thoughts.
Nomi is a recipient of a 2018 Ontario Art Council grant For Visual.
